David Asakura is a founding partner and principal broker of Commercial Asset Advisors, a team of seasoned real estate brokerage and consulting professionals focused on providing innovative solutions to its clients. With a deep understanding of the unique Hawaii market, he is an industry leader specializing in the brokerage of multifamily asset transactions for private equity and institutional clients, and has represented many of the REITs, funds, developers, and major private parties who are actively investing in the region.
With over 25 years of experience in real estate design, development, brokerage, due diligence, financial underwriting and asset/project management, he brings a comprehensive set of skills to his clients and investment partners. David oversees strategic acquisitions, equity investments and partnerships, and serves as the sponsor / general partner for numerous ventures investing in multifamily real estate, as well as a variety of other opportunistic private equity placements.
David previously held the position of Account Manager with Colliers International, where he oversaw a portfolio of 45 properties totaling over 2 million square feet of retail, office, industrial and multi-family assets for Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii’s largest landowner. In this unique role, David supervised the leasing, property management and accounting teams and worked closely with Kamehameha Schools’ asset management team to develop and implement strategic plans. David’s strength lies with understanding clients’ goals and then guiding them towards success.
Prior to entering the real estate sector, David held the position of Manager of Information Systems and Facilities for one of the nation’s leading engineering and architecture design firms. In this role, he managed offices throughout California, Hawaii and Asia. This diverse experience allows David to bring a distinctive perspective to his clients, allowing him to find real estate solutions that suit the various facets of their business needs.
David holds the highly-desirable designation of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), held by just over 100 real estate professionals in the State of Hawaii, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.
David has been an active member of the community serving on various non-profit boards/committees and volunteering with industry organizations including Honolulu Habitat for Humanity (past President), Waikiki Community Center and Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce.
